EU frees up millions for human rights and ICTs

The European Parliament today approved a proposal by Marietje Schaake, a Liberal MEP from the Netherlands, to include internet freedom as a key objective in the EU’s foreign- and international trade policy. Starting in 2012, the EU will train and empower bloggers, online journalists and human rights defenders to circumvent censorship and evade cyber attacks, often carried out by their own governments.
